College Offers Free Financial Aid Workshops
August 22, 2024
Hudson Valley Community College is offering two free financial aid workshops on Saturday, August 24 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on campus in Troy and at the HVCC North extension center.
The workshops will provide assistance to students completing the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. New and future college students will also have the opportunity to speak to financial aid counselors to learn more about college aid, loan and scholarship programs.
The event is free and open to all students and families, not just those attending Hudson Valley. Advance registration is requested.
Any student, regardless of income, who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs must complete the FAFSA. It takes most people less than one hour to fill out the FAFSA form and gather any personal documents and financial information needed to complete it.
“We are proud to again offer dedicated support to students and families seeking to access financial aid to offset college costs through workshops open to our community. Our goal is to ensure that students are able to access aid they deserve and begin their education and future careers with little or no student debt,” said Louis Coplin, Officer in Charge at Hudson Valley Community College.
According to the Education Data Initiative, student financial aid statistics indicate that while 87.3% of college students benefit from some form of financial aid, public programs are underutilized. Only 71% of families apply for federal financial aid using the Federal Application for Student Financial Aid. In addition, 38.6% of undergraduates each receive federal loans each year, while 56.0% of undergraduates each receive federal grants.
